My perspective on the field of Artificial Intelligence is wholey strategic.
Scores of intellectual giants who have worked on Artificial Intelligence and their contributions are both daunting and inadequate. I have neither the intellect or the funding of these giants, but I have a desire to make a significant contribution to the field none-the-less.
When one goes digging for gold it makes little sense to dig where every-body else is digging because the competition will be intense and the pickings tiny. Neither does it make sense to dig in some random location because the odds will be long.
I surveyed the established field of mainstream Artificial Intelligence, but from the assumption that it was a tour of interesting but ultimately unfruitful approaches. My brief tour revealed impressive ingenuity but the dominent roles of search and reasoning did not appear promising to me in any case.
I refer to my efforts as Intelligence Engineering in recognition of this departure and in the audacious assumption that I will be successful.
